At one point I was introduced to Raed Samahiji (@raedsamahiji) who is a father and businessman in Bahrain. I had asked Raed if he could suggest one book that would help me better understand his religion.

His choice was “Who Speaks for Islam? – What a Billion Muslims Really Think.” by John L. Esposito and Dalia Mogahed. (My link is to the Kindle version)

This is a great choice. The book is written in a way that would bring value to complete newcomers to Islam (most people in the US for sure) as well as those with a level of existing knowledge.

The relationship between the Muslim world and the West is something that is going to shape our future so I highly recommend this book.

Although I don’t have a Kindle, I’m excited that Amazon is really pushing the eBook concept in their Kindle store.

Thanks to my oracle of all things good (Twitter) I came across some more super Kindle store deals – this time free free Sci-Fi and Fantasy. “What’s the catch?” I hear you ask. Actually there isn’t one, other than the books available are all the first of trilogies so the idea is clearly to get us hooked so we buy the rest. Nothing wrong with that.

Here are the titles with links to the download page. Don’t have a Kindle? No worries, get the Kindle app for your iPhone.

Settling Accounts Return Engagement by Harry Turtledove

His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik

Blood Engines by T.A. Pratt

Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb – this would be my first pick if I hadn’t already read all her work.

Red Mars by Stanley Robinson

This offer is for a limited time so get your books quickly.

Thanks Amazon – this is great! Oh, I’d appreciate it if you could fix the iPhone app so I can invert the colours as well.
